Vintage Community South Seas Silverplate Demitasse Spoons, Set of 4, c. 1950s
A charming set of four vintage American silverplate demitasse spoons by Community, in the South Seas pattern introduced in 1955.
Petite and beautifully detailed, these small spoons were designed for demitasse and after-dinner coffee service, but their scale makes them wonderfully versatile for entertaining today. Use them with espresso or tea, individual desserts, parfaits, condiments, salt cellars, jams or preserves, or add them to a coffee or cocktail setup where a full-size teaspoon feels too large.
South Seas has a distinctive mid-century decorative pattern inspired by tropical and organic forms, giving the handles considerably more personality than a traditional plain silver pattern while still feeling elegant on the table.
Community was a well-known American silverware brand associated with Oneida, the New York manufacturer whose roots grew from the Oneida Community in the 19th century. Community became one of its important tableware lines and produced numerous recognizable American silverplate patterns throughout the 20th century. South Seas was introduced in 1955, placing these spoons firmly in the postwar era of American entertaining and tableware.
Sold as a set of four—a useful little group for coffee service, cocktails or the table.
