Salem China Commodore 23K Gold Cocktail & Dessert Plates, Set of 6
A lovely set of six vintage Commodore plates by Salem China Company of Ohio, dating to the late 1940s. Each cream-colored plate is decorated with delicate bows, swags, tassels and filigree in genuine 23-karat gold, a wonderfully elegant neoclassical design that feels just as chic today.
Originally made as salad plates, their versatile 7.25-inch size is particularly useful for entertaining. Use them for cocktails and passed bites, dessert or cake, salads, or mix them into a collected table setting. The warm cream ground and gold decoration pair beautifully with both traditional and contemporary china, glassware and linens.
The set is in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. There is some age-appropriate wear to the gold decoration and fine crazing to the glaze, primarily visible under close inspection or certain lighting, which adds lovely character and patina.
