Vintage Silverplate Galloping Horse Knife Rests, Set of 8, c. 1960s–70s
A fabulous set of eight vintage silverplate knife rests, each sculpted in the form of a galloping horse. Dating to approximately the 1960's-1970's, the wonderfully animated figures bring just the right amount of whimsy to an elegant table.
Traditionally used to keep a dining knife (and any accompanying sauce or juices) off the tablecloth between courses, knife rests are one of those nearly forgotten pieces of tableware that are still useful and delightful today. These are equally useful as chopstick rests or simply as decorative objects scattered along a table.
Each horse measures approximately 3.25 inches long, with enough weight and presence to feel substantial in the hand. The set has polished beautifully, highlighting the sculptural detail and movement of each figure. Unmarked.
