A substantial mid-century American silverplate-over-copper well-and-tree serving platter by Lawrence B. Smith Co. of Boston, dating to approximately the 1930's - 1950's. Measuring approximately 18 by 14 inches, this unusually large vintage platter features a traditional raised "tree" at the center, originally designed to channel meat carving juices, flanked by two deep serving compartments. A classic rope-twist border finishes the generously scaled form.

While originally designed for roasts and carving, its three-part layout makes it remarkably useful for modern entertaining. Use the center for sliced steak, roast chicken or tenderloin with vegetables or potatoes alongside; turn it into an abundant appetizer platter with cheeses or charcuterie in the center and accompaniments in the side wells; or use the compartments to separate crudités, dips, fruit, desserts or other elements of a shared spread. It's the kind of old serving piece that becomes even better when freed from its original job.

Marked L.B.S. Co. / Superfine / EPC, indicating electroplated silver over a copper base. The substantial copper construction gives the piece noticeably more weight and presence than many later lightweight plated trays.

The surface retains the marks of its original life, including visible knife marks in the central carving area and areas where the warm copper base has begun to show through the silverplate, particularly around the raised tree. We consider this honest patina part of the platter's character rather than a flaw—a beautiful record of a piece made to be used and enjoyed.

Dimensions: Approximately 18" L × 14" W

Good vintage condition with surface wear, knife marks and localized copper showing through the silverplate as photographed. Structurally substantial and ready for continued use.
