A beautiful set of six mother-of-pearl handled knives by William Adams of Sheffield, England, each finished with an ornate sterling silver collar.
Originally made as fruit knives for the fruit or dessert course, their petite scale makes them wonderfully versatile for entertaining today. Use them for fruit and cheese at the table, set them out with individual cheese plates, add them to a brunch spread with butter, preserves and soft cheeses, or scatter them around a generous charcuterie board for guests to help themselves.
The genuine mother-of-pearl handles have wonderful natural variation and iridescence, while the decorative sterling collars make even a casual spread feel special.
The blades are marked "William Adams Sheffield Stainless," and each collar is stamped "Sterling."
Early 20th century.
In very good vintage condition with surface wear and patina consistent with age and use. The mother-of-pearl handles remain beautifully intact.
