hukin-heath-silverplate-cocktail-tray-in-the-style-of-christopher-dresser
Antique Hukin & Heath Silverplate Cocktail Tray, design attributed to Dr. Christopher Dresser

A striking English silverplate cocktail tray by Hukin & Heath, the celebrated British silversmith and manufacturer closely associated with pioneering designer Dr. Christopher Dresser.

The design is wonderfully evocative of Dresser's work for the firm: spare, architectural and remarkably modern, with an elongated rectangular form, exposed rivet construction and sculptural double-mounted handles. Attributed to Dresser, its strong geometric design reflects the modernist vocabulary for which his work with Hukin & Heath became known.

A beautifully engraved heraldic animal (demi-wolf rampant crest, likely a family crest) at the center adds an unexpected bit of character and history to the otherwise minimal design.

At approximately 17.5 inches long by 4.5 inches wide, its proportions are particularly fabulous for the bar. Line it with coupes or cocktail glasses, use it for a decanter and bar tools, or serve a row of hors d'oeuvres or canapés.

Marked H&H and model number 8377 to the underside. Exact production date is unknown, but estimated to be late 19th century or early 20th century.

Excellent antique condition with a bright, mirror-like finish. Light surface scratches and wear consistent with age and use. The upper surface, sides and handles retain beautiful plating without notable pitting or bleed-through. Some plate loss is present to the underside where the tray has rested on surfaces over time, creating an aged patina that is not visible in use.

Approx. 18" L × 4.5" W.

https://hostedbykirsten.com/products/hukin-heath-silverplate-cocktail-tray-in-the-style-of-christopher-dresser
