Antique Johnson Brothers Pareek Floral Bowls, Set of 4
A beautiful set of four antique English bowls by Johnson Brothers, the celebrated Staffordshire pottery whose tableware became especially popular in the American market during the early 20th century.
Made in Johnson Brothers' Pareek line, the ivory-toned bowls feature a border of soft sage green architectural scrollwork, cream and gilt detailing, and colorful sprays of garden flowers in shades of pink, blue, red, yellow and white.
At approximately six inches across, these bowls are wonderfully versatile for modern entertaining. Use them for olives, nuts, dips and spreads at cocktail hour; berries, fruit, yogurt or granola at breakfast; appetizers and small salads; or ice cream and other desserts. Beyond the table, they're gorgeous as catch-alls for jewelry and other small treasures, or simply displayed together as decorative English china.
The set survives in very good antique condition, particularly considering its approximately 90–100 years of age. Minor marks to the reverse suggest the bowls may at one time have been displayed on a wall, which may also help explain the beautifully preserved decoration and interiors. Light age-appropriate wear is present.
