Antique 1931 Wedgwood Yale University Blue & White Dinner Plates, Set of 8

A remarkable set of eight Wedgwood dinner plates depicting historic views of the Yale University campus, first issued in 1931. Made in Etruria, England, each plate features a different architectural scene rendered in intricate blue transferware and surrounded by an elaborate floral border.

The eight views include; Yale College Fence & Campus, Sheffield Hall, Vanderbilt–Scientific Hall II, Walter Camp Memorial Gateway, Old Chapel, Sterling Memorial Library, Harkness Memorial Tower and Connecticut Hall.

Beyond their Yale connection, these are beautiful examples of early 20th-century English transferware: substantial 10½-inch dinner plates with richly detailed decoration and a wonderfully classic blue-and-white palette. Use them for an exceptionally good-looking table, display them as a collection, or give them to a proud Yale alum.

Produced by Wedgwood in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Each bears the Yale 1931 mark as well as Wedgwood/Etruria/England markings. Excellent antique condition, particularly for their age, with crisp decoration and very little evidence of table use. No chips or cracks; light age-related crazing may be visible, primarily on the reverse.
