Plate 78 illustrates the refined interior design principles of early 18th-century France, a carefully composed arrangement of architectural paneling, an ornate mirror, and marble console table.

The accompanying French text reveals period design wisdom: the strategic placement of mirrors opposite fireplaces creates visual symmetry and multiplies reflections throughout an interior, a hallmark of French classical decoration. A remarkable artifact of design history and entertaining inspiration.

The antique print carries its years gracefully, with warm age-related toning, spotting, and subtle surface variation that speak to its authenticity. Newly framed in a substantial black frame with gilt detailing and a generous neutral mat that honors the engraving's architectural subject.

Publication: L'Architecture Françoise, ou Recueil des Plans, Élévations, Coupes et Profils
Publisher: Jean Mariette, Paris
Date: 1727
Plate: 78
Medium: Engraving on paper
Dimensions: Approximately 23.5" H × 19" W (framed)
Condition: Antique print with age-related toning, spotting, and wear; newly framed

https://hostedbykirsten.com/products/1727-french-architectural-engraving-jean-mariette-matted-and-framed
